HIKE, BIKE & SKI Montana’s Yellowstone Country

100 Classic Trails in Bozeman, Big Sky & Beyond

Explore The Last Best Trails — Free Online Edition

For six years, my family and I spent weekends and holidays exploring hundreds of hiking, biking, and skiing trails throughout Montana’s Yellowstone Country—in every season and every kind of weather.

I GPS-mapped the trails, photographed our adventures, and returned to the routes we loved most to document and illustrate them in greater depth. To make the book more than simply my perspective, I also interviewed dozens of local trail experts, guides, and endurance athletes who shared their favorite places, hard-earned knowledge, and recommendations.

The result is The Last Best Trails—part trail guide, part illustrated adventure, and part collection of short animated films. Three books in one, created as a labor of love and an invitation to explore the Last Best Place.

One of my favorite features is something I still use regularly: detailed driving directions to every trailhead. The book was designed to help you get off the screen, find the trail, and start exploring.

We hope The Last Best Trails inspires you and your family to discover Montana's Yellowstone Country as much as we have—and continue to do.
